Species Information
This page is dedicated to the 17 species of bat that can be found in the UK. Officially there are now only 16 species, and consequently there is some debate as to whether the Greater Mouse-eared bat should appear on this page as it was declared extinct in 1991. However, after a female was found in 2001, some hope has been restored, and so for the moment at least, we have left it on the list. They appear in alphabetical order as follows, and those highlighted in blue contain a link to a further information page. In addition, we have created a page summarizing the frequency and sounds of each type to assist with identification in the field. Click here for summary
